Structuring is what we do when we intend to lead and implement. It enables our visualization of what we can do and organization to achieve it.
Structuring contrasts with responding (see opposite edge) which is what we do when we intend to follow and innovate. If we loose focus on structuring and are excessively responding, we are limiting our capacities for visualization and organization. Conversely, over-emphasis on structuring our visualization and organization occurs at the expense of responding for collaboration and contribution.
Effective leadership requires a sensitivity to the situational need for structuring and responding. When visualization and organization are are important outcomes, structuring is an essential leadership behavior. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
