"I believe that we respond most and best to work in any art form (and to other experience as well) if we are pluralistic, flexible, relative in our judgments, if we are eclectic." - Pauline Kael
"Oh, the miraculous energy that flows between two people who care enough to get beyond surfaces and games, who are willing to take the risks of being totally open, of listening, of responding with the whole heart. How much we can do for each other." - Alex Noble
"Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitudes toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it." - Charles Swindoll Home | "The Leader-Follower" Blog | Questions & Comments | © Strategies for Leadership, Design by Ikonalex Interpretation
Responding is what we do when we intend to follow and innovate. It enables our collaboration and contribution.
Responding contrasts with structuring (see opposite edge) which is what we do when we intend to lead and implement. If we loose focus on responding and are excessively structuring, we are limiting our capacities for collaboration and contribution. Conversely, over-emphasis on responding for collaboration and contribution occurs at the expense of structuring visualization and organization.
Effective leadership requires a sensitivity to the situational need for responding and structuring. When collaboration and contribution are are important outcomes, responding is an essential leadership behavior. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
