Our intentions to lead or follow are satisfied only when we respect both roles in ourselves and others, and adopt one or the other according to the situation. Mutual respect is essential for collaboration and organization.
Respecting contrasts with realizing (see opposite edge). If we strengthen our focus on realizing something at the expense of respecting these roles, our capacities to collaborate and organize are jeopardised. Conversely, if we focus on respecting roles at the expense of realizing, the culture quickly becomes political and our intentions to implement and innovate become obscured.
