Respecting someone, honoring them for who they are, results in this case, from including and transcending the intentions to lead and follow.
To lead, is to provide direction that another can follow, and to follow is to take action according to another's direction. Thus alignment around direction occurs when, whether a person's intention is to lead or to follow, intentions are mutually respected; when each is respecting the other.
Outcomes associated with respecting include organization, a structure that reflects who is leading and following over the longer term, and collaboration, a structure in which leading and following roles alternate in the short term, according to the situation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
