"These are days when no one should rely unduly on his competence. Strength lies in improvisation. All the decisive blows are struck left-handed." - Walter Benjamin
"The only way to recognize a military genius is by the fact that, during the war, he will mock the rules of warfare and will employ creative improvisation instead of tested methods and he will do so at the right moment." - Stefan Zweig
"Improvisation is too good to leave to chance." - Paul Simon Interpretation
Improvising is what we do when we intend to lead and innovate. Our visualizations and collaborations are, in part, enabled by our improvisation.
Improvising contrasts with conforming (see opposite edge) which is what we do when we intend to follow and implement. If we loose our focus on improvising we limit our capacities for visualization and collaboration, and excessively conform. Conversely, relative over-emphasis on improvising increases our capacities for visualization and collaboration at the expense of conforming for organization and contribution.
Conforming & improvising are synergistic practices that need relative emphasis according to the needs of the situation. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
