The State must follow, and not lead, the character and progress of the citizen.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Follow the fellow who follows a dream.
- E.Y. Harburg
Follow your genius closely enough, and it will not fail to show you a fresh prospect every hour.
- Henry David Thoreau
To flatter and follow others, without being flattered and followed in turn, is but a state of half enjoyment.
- Jane Austen
In following him, I follow but myself.
- William Shakespeare
We follow by respecting, conforming and responding.
When we are passively following, we are not creating our own visualization (see opposite face). We are not interested to lead, innovate or implement and have pretty much opted out. Conversely if we become over enthusiastic about our own vision, to the exclusion of a shared one, we will be less responsive, conforming and respectful.
We follow our visualization by organizing our resources, collaborating with others and making our own contribution. This is the meaning of "walking the talk."
Meanwhile we can follow those who share their vision, by responding when they innovate, by conforming when they implement and by respecting them when they lead.
