Collaboration emerges when, in our desire to innovate, we respect and balance the alternatives we have to lead by improvising and to follow by responding.
Collaboration is complemented by the need to implement (see opposite corner) which we do by visualizing an outcome, organizing for it and contributing to it. When we stop collaborating, efforts become focused on the routine structuring, conforming and realizing of implementation. While implementation is essential, it is unsustainable without innovation which is inevitably spurred by collaboration.
We express our leadership in collaboration by appropriately choosing when to lead or follow as we innovate with others. Quotes

"Our new challenge as leaders is to bring real collaboration to an increasingly virtual world." - Chris Newham
"Science is a collaborative effort." - John Bardeen
"A leader is someone who steps back from the entire system and tries to build a more collaborative, more innovative system that will work over the long term." - Robert Reich | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
